Temu has signed an agreement with Zaļā josta, a producer responsibility system company, to support sellers on its platform in meeting extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements in Latvia.

The agreement will enter into force on 1 April 2026 and will cover the registration and reporting requirements in Latvia related to packaging and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The cooperation envisages establishing a streamlined pathway for sellers to navigate and fulfill these environmental requirements in a more transparent and structured manner.

Through the partnership, consumers in Latvia can access official collection points for the recycling of packaging and WEEE purchased on Temu, supporting proper collection and recycling in line with local requirements.

“We are pleased that Temu has joined Latvia’s producer responsibility system and is supporting sellers on its platform in meeting their obligations,” said Jānis Lapsa, Chairman of the Management Board of Zaļā josta. “Steps like this help increase collection and sorting, return more materials to circulation, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.”

Temu has established cooperation with more than 30 licensed producer responsibility organizations across the European Union, covering categories including packaging, batteries, and WEEE. These partnerships help sellers meet their extended producer responsibility obligations and support local collection and recycling systems.

“This collaboration with Zaļā josta enables sellers on Temu to more easily fulfill their local producer responsibility obligations,” said a Temu spokesperson. “We aim to provide practical guidance and resources to help sellers comply with EPR requirements.”

The Latvian State Environmental Service (VVD) welcomes the cooperation between Zaļā josta and Temu, viewing it as a significant step toward implementing the European Union’s environmental policy requirements. The VVD positively assesses Temu's involvement in the extended producer responsibility system and its assumption of the necessary responsibility.

Zaļā josta is accredited by the VVD to help contractual partners fulfill requirements regarding the management and producer responsibility system.
