RIGA - The seat in the European Parliament (EP) won by Latvia First party in last Saturday's elections is the party's victory, believes Saeima member Vilis Kristopans (Latvia First), who has been elected to the EP, according to provisional results.
"This is a victory for the party, because everyone fought against us," the politician told LETA, promising that the party would continue to "save Latvia" from its last place in the European Union (EU).
"In fact, out of the nine MEPs elected, I am the only one who is against the other eight, because the others are with the force that has been in power for the past 15 years in Latvia," Kristopans said.
The prospective MEP pointed out that elections in other EU member states have resulted in "huge changes".
As reported, New Unity won the EP elections in Latvia, leaving the National Alliance in second place. New Unity and the National Alliance each won two mandates in the EP, while the United List, For Latvia's Development, Latvia First, Progressives and Harmony each won one mandate. Dombrovskis emerged as the candidate with higher voter support.
