VILNIUS – Lithuania should find funds for investment into its border with Belarus, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda says, adding that the necessary amount is not that big.
"We still need certain funds, especially near the Belarusian border for it to be fully covered. That money is not something cosmically big and it will definitely be found," the Lithuanian president told journalists during his visit to Medininkai near the Belarusian border on Thursday.
The president is visiting the State Border Guard Service's units on Thursday.
According to the Lithuanian president, investment into the border with Belarus would help to protect from illegal migrants and smugglers.
"The border will be 100-percent protected by modern equipment and technological measures and will create conditions to feel safe and protect ourselves from illegal migrants and from the shadow economy's smuggling," Nauseda said.
The president says modern equipment and technology is used to protect 37 percent of the border with Belarus, adding that it would be upgraded using not only funds from the Lithuanian budget.
