Comparatively little time remains for people in Latvia who wish to establish a political party in advance of next year’s parliamentary election. The law says that this must be done within one year of the election, which will take place on October 8, 2018. This will be Latvia’s 13th Saeima election, four having been held during the pre-war period and eight having been held since the restoration of the country’s independence, including one snap election in 2011 after the dissolution of a truly venal parliament by then president Valdis Zatlers.
