VILNIUS – The Vilnius authorities should look for "alternative financial sources" for the construction of a national stadium in the Lithuanian capital, the finance and interior minister said on Tuesday.
Their position comes on the eve of a vote by the Vilnius authorities on the stadium's concession agreement.
"We suggest that the municipality resolves this issue by looking for alternatives financial sources, probably by redistributing funding for the municipality's other projects," Interior Minister Eimutis Misiunas said in a statement.
Finance Minister Vilius Sapoka adds that "the initial funding model has become unsustainable."
In the joint statement, the two ministers also say the project is now risks losing EU funding.
