Vilnius Invites Tourists to Camp in the City Center

  • 2026-04-10

Vilnius is challenging urban tourism traditions by offering an unusual opportunity: camping in the heart of the capital. For travelers seeking affordable adventure, a unique alternative is available this summer - staying in a tent. Once the tent is pitched, here are ten events to help visitors enjoy the city's offerings and avoid oversleeping in their tents, curated by "Go Vilnius".

"Vilnius is a great summer vacation spot because the trip is short, but the choice of accommodation is unexpected. There are places here that allow you to camp in a tent right in the heart of the city," says Eglė Girdzijauskaitė, Head of Communications at "Go Vilnius." "More than 60% of Vilnius is covered by green zones, allowing one to breathe in the freshness of the forest and enjoy the proximity of nature in the city center."

Once the tent is up, the city recommends ten reasons to go out and explore rather than oversleeping:

- Gen Z. All at Once | April 18 – August 30 | MO Museum. The most well-known private art museum in Vilnius offers a new exhibition dedicated to the identity, challenges, and culture of the younger generation.

- New Baltic Dance | April 23–25. This year, the festival celebrates its 20th edition. Over two decades, it has carved out a niche that many larger European festivals have been unable to replicate— contemporary dance based on Baltic traditions.

- Eglė Ridikaitė’s Exhibition at St. George’s Church | From May 13. The historic St. George’s Church, which is usually closed to visitors, will host an exhibition by painter Eglė Ridikaitė. The rarely accessible church and the artist's works make this one of the most exclusive cultural experiences of the summer.

- “Open House Vilnius” and Street Music Day | May 16–17. In mid-May, visitors can attend two events with extensive programs. “Open House Vilnius” offers the chance to explore up to 140 architectural sites usually closed to the public, ranging from modernist buildings to mysterious courtyards. On the same day, Street Music Day—which started in Vilnius and spread across Lithuania—fills the city center with vibrant performances.

- Vilnius Half Marathon | May 23. One of the most popular running events in the Baltics, offering participants scenic routes. The program also includes a children's run.

- Vilnius Mama Jazz | May 22–24. A three-day jazz festival gathering international and local artists at various locations across Vilnius.

- Vilnius Pink Soup Festival | May 29–31. The brightest culinary festival in Vilnius, centered around the legendary cold beet soup. The festival offers an intensive program of chefs, food stalls, and entertainment throughout the city for three days.

- Fashion Infection | May 29–30. During this two-day showcase, Lithuanian fashion designers will present their latest fashion collections.

- Culture Night | June 12. For one night a year, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions stay open until late, offering a special free program and performances.

- Lithuanian Youth Song Festival | July 3–6. Approximately 24,000 young people will gather in Vilnius to celebrate Lithuanian folk song and dance traditions. This is one of the most authentic cultural events in Lithuania, providing a unique opportunity to experience the country’s identity.
