VILNIUS - Rudy Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and a political ally of US President Donald Trump, may come to Lithuania in the spring, Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said on Thursday.

The minister said that Giuliani and he had discussed a possible visit in a telephone conversation, adding that the visit would focus on cyber and energy security.

"He does want to come to Lithuania in the near future, possibly in the spring. We would discuss many specific issues, such as energy security, in which he takes the interest, and cyber security, which he has been assigned by President Trump to take care of," he told the Ziniu Radijas radio station.

Trump announced earlier this month that Giuliani would advise his administration on cybersecurity issues. The 72-year-old former New York mayor had earlier been mentioned as a contender for secretary of state.

Trump's election campaign remarks that he would look at whether US allies in NATO were fulfilling their obligations before deciding whether to come to their defense stoked worries in Lithuania and other European countries.
