RIGA - The United List in talks with prime minister-designate Evika Silina (New Unity) has received a proposal to work in the government with the Union of Greens and Farmers and the Progressives, said one of the United List leaders, Edvards Smiltens, after negotiations on Tuesday.
According to Smiltens, the United List faction will have to make a tough choice.
Smiltens said that during the negotiations the United List did not receive the necessary solution on removing the influence of sanctioned Aivars Lembergs on the Union of Greens and Farmers and the potential government in general.
Silina admitted after the meeting that such a proposal has been made and now is expecting the decision of the United List whether the party agrees to join the future coalition.
She said that the United List still has to decide whether to work together with the New Unity, the Union of Greens and Farmers and the Progressives, while the National Alliance has already distanced itself from a possible five-party coalition.
"It is clear that such a decision is serious," Silina said, adding that it is important that the partners trust each other.
Silina said that the New Unity and the United List share opinions about the economy, the national economy, security, competitiveness of banks and budget.
The prime minister-designate respects the United List's concerns about potential influence of Lembergs. "There is subjectivity on the part of those lawmakers who have worked with Lembergs. I have no such experience, but others, of course, may have personal concerns. But I have a strong backbone," she said.
