RIGA - The Ukrainian nation will never give in to Russia, even if Ukrainian infrastructure is completely destroyed, and there already are calls in the West for supporting guerilla warfare in Ukraine, European Parliament member Sandra Kalniete (New Unity) said in an interview with TV24.
There should be massive demonstrations at the Russian Embassy in Riga today, said Kalniete. She also urged people to go light candles at the Ukrainian Embassy.
"Remember the bloody January of 1991, when any gesture of solidarity from across the world was highly important for Latvia," said Kalniete.
Speaking of the Western countries' political support for Ukraine, Kalniete said it was important that the United States and the European Union agree on top-level sanctions package, including a ban on exports of high technology to Russia as it needs high technology to maintain its military potential and continue the war.
Kalniete believes that Russian planes should be banned from flying to Europe and the United States, and Russia should be blocked from SWIFT. Furthermore, the U.S., British and EU financial systems should tackle Russian dirty money.
