TALLINN – April 23 is Veterans Day and to mark the occasion, all state and local government authorities and legal persons governed by public law are to hoist the Estonian flag, however, everyone else may also hoist the flag for the occasion.
Flags are hoisted at sunrise or at 8 a.m. at the latest and lowered at sunset. If a flag is not lowered, it must be illuminated in the dark.
Veterans Day honors veterans, who have strengthened Estonia's security far from home during military operations or have been injured in service, and their families and loved ones. There are more than 3,000 veterans of the defense forces and the Kaitseliit (Defense League) volunteer corps.
As is tradition, a commemorative service will be held in the Estonian Soldiers Memorial Church in Tori at noon, while the Veteranirock concert will take place in front of the Endla Theater in Parnu at 7 p.m.
