Three people die in tragic crash in Tukums municipality

RIGA - A tragic accident with three deaths in Tukums municipality last Sunday occurred when a passenger car entered the opposite lane and collided with a truck, according to information available to the State Police.

The police explained that five vehicles were involved in the accident on the Ventspils motorway.

Initial information suggests that the driver of a Toyota failed to control the vehicle and drove into the opposite lane, causing a collision with a Volvo truck. Three persons in a Toyota Hilux were killed.

Three other cars then collided.

The police have opened criminal proceedings into the accident.

Latvian Television (LTV) reported that one of the victims in the accident is Ernests Moisejs (National Alliance), a former member of the Salaspils municipality council.

According to information obtained by LTV, the accident occurred in a place where visibility is good and the road is flat. Latvijas Valsts Celi (LVC) road maintenance company also confirmed to LTV that the road had been cleaned several times.
