RIGA - Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) announced told members of the press on Wednesday after a meeting with the Progressive party that New Unity and all the other political forces involved in the government formation talks have a unified position on the most important issues of the work of the next government.

The government's task is to take care of the interests of the entire society, and it cannot be influenced by narrow interests, the prime minister emphasized. During the meeting, the representatives of the parties discussed topics such as education and science, the economy and its development, the rule of law and security. Similarly as with representatives of the National Alliance (NA) and the United List (AS), New Unity has not revealed any disagreements with the Progressives in these matters, Karins pointed out.

As for the important national reforms - the Administrative Territorial Reform (ATR) and port reform, the Progressives, like NA and AS, have agreed that they cannot be halted, but can be improved, the Prime Minister said. The Progressives have no complaints about the construction of the liquefied gas (LNG) terminal either, but at the same time during the conversation, both parties agreed that the country should develop the use of renewable energy resources - wind and solar energy. Karins emphasized that this issue is also of national importance.
