The West and Russia: Changing Euro-Atlantic Security Landscapes?

  • 2017-09-14

Over the past years, relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated, trust has virtually disappeared and cooperation in many spheres came to a halt. At the same time, there are calls for reconnecting the two sides politically, as well as practically. The experts participating in the discussion will pragmatically discuss Russia-West relations and possibilities of their future development, including effects for Latvia.

Latvian Institute of International Affairs continues a tradition of such debates among experts and policy-makers, and invites you to take part in the public discussion "The West and Russia: Changing Euro-Atlantic Security Landscapes?" and presentation of "Riga Dialogue Afterthoughts 2017" that will take place on 14 September 2017 from 11:00-12:30 at the Hotel Bergs (Elizabetes 83/85, Glass Hall, 5th floor).

Speakers at the event include Ivan Timofeev (Russian International Affairs Council), Bruno Lété (German Marshall Fund of the United States), Imants Lieģis (Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to France, former Minister of Defence), Reinhard Krumm (Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Vienna). Opening remarks will be delivered by Andris Sprūds (Latvian Institute of International Affairs).

Moderator – Andris Sprūds (Latvian Institute of International Affairs).

The publication to be presented is a follow-up to the fourth annual Riga Dialogue conference that endeavours to reflect the recognisable diversity of perceptions and interests among a variety of stakeholders in the Euro-Atlantic area, and offer insights for increasing mutual trust and outlining common efforts. This year’s Afterthoughts continue the tradition of providing insights by leading international experts. The publication deals with Euro-Atlantic and regional security developments, as well as challenges and opportunities for dialogue. The Afterthoughts also include a summary of opinions and ideas debated during the Riga Dialogue conference that took place in Riga in May 2017.

The publication will be available for free at the event and later, in PDF format, at www.liia.lv.
