RIGA - Ten people were rushed to hospitals with symptoms of heatstroke as Latvia was hit by a heatwave last Sunday, Inga Vitola, a spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Service, informed LETA.
Over the past two days, a total of 25 people with symptoms of overheating were taken to medical institutions in Latvia, according to paramedics.
Vitola said that the workload of the ambulance service had not significantly increased due to the heat-related callouts.
Most often, adults and children developed heat-related symptoms after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Also, people often forgot to rehydrate, Vitola noted.
As reported, a red alert has been issued in Latvia for today and tomorrow over extremely high temperatures, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center informed.
