Temu partners with Lithuanian producer responsibility organizations to support seller EPR

Temu has partnered with two Lithuanian producer responsibility organizations to support sellers in meeting their extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations in the country.

The partnership with the Electronics Producers and Importers Organization (EGIO) and the Producers and Importers Association (GIA) will support sellers on Temu in fulfilling applicable registration and reporting requirements. The two licensed organizations are operating under Lithuania's Law on Waste Management: EGIO is responsible for implementing collective producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment, and GIA for batteries.

“This collaboration with EGIO and GIA enables sellers on Temu to more easily fulfill their local producer responsibility obligations,” said a Temu spokesperson. “We aim to provide practical guidance and resources to help sellers comply with EPR requirements in Lithuania and across Europe.”

To date, Temu has established partnerships with more than 30 licensed producer responsibility organizations across the European Union, covering packaging, batteries, and waste from electrical and electronic equipment. These collaborations allow sellers on Temu to meet their EPR obligations while supporting local collection and recycling ecosystems throughout Europe.

“We are pleased that Temu has chosen EGIO as its producer responsibility partner in Lithuania,” said Veronika Masalienė, Head of the Electronics Producers and Importers Organization. “International producers' participation in the collective system will help achieve the EU requirement to collect at least 65 percent of electronic equipment sold annually in the country. It will also continue developing convenient waste collection infrastructure, protecting the environment from fires and pollution, and advancing the circular economy and green energy.”

“We welcome Temu's partnership with GIA,” said Asta Pakštaitė-Marcinkienė, Director of GIA.
“Responsible participation by producers in the collective system strengthens its effectiveness while ensuring that products placed on the Lithuanian market are managed responsibly throughout their entire life cycle – from market entry to waste collection and recycling.”

EPR compliance supports pollution reduction, recycling development, material recovery and long-term resource circularity, said Jurgita Sadauskaitė, Director of the Environmental Quality Department at the Environmental Protection Department.

“Participation by international e-commerce platforms in producer responsibility systems contributes to a level playing field for all market participants, strengthens transparency in the waste management system, and allows for more effective compliance with environmental requirements,” she said.
