Speakers of Baltic and Swedish parliaments to discuss support for Ukraine in Riga

RIGA - The speakers of the Estonian, Lithuanian and Swedish parliaments are due to arrive in Riga next Monday, February 28, to discuss regional security, LETA was told at the Saeima press office. 

"All our attention is currently focused on Ukraine where Russia has launched a sweeping military offensive. In these difficult times we have to be united with Ukraine and continue  to provide all possible political and practical support," said Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance).

The Baltic and Nordic countries traditionally discuss important regional developments and various geopolitical issues in the NB8 and other formats. The Saeima speaker indicated that the upcoming meeting with focus on cooperation between the Baltic states and Sweden, as well as coordination with other Nordic countries. 

In the talks at the parliament house in Riga, Murniece will host Estonian Juri Ratas, Speaker of Estonia's Riigikogu, Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, Speaker of Lithuania's Seimas and Andreas Norlen, Speaker of Sweden's Riksdag.

The meeting of the speakers of the Baltic and Swedish parliaments will be followed by a joint news conference.
