RIGA – On Friday morning about 75-100 multi-apartment homes in Riga still have problems with heating, and every day the company solves problems in some five houses, Siltumserviss Riga heating company’s board member Tengizs Abramjancs told the press on Friday.

Siltumserviss Riga started switching on heating in Riga on October 1 and by October 19 all houses were heated. The problems have been caused by the poor condition of the heating systems and the large number of illegitimate access to heating units.

Siltumserviss Riga board member Alberts Suna said that since last spring, the company had been inspecting and replacing the out-dated heating units. Many of them are very old. In many places it is difficult to access heating units because of the owners of the buldings.

As reported, as this year’s heating season started, Siltumserviss Riga faced a number of problems. According to Rigas Namu Parvaldnieks (RNP) municipal housing manager, the heating company had not been able to cooperate efficiently with residents, and RNP is receiving up to 10,000 complaints a day about heating.

The Riga City Council has warned that the company might be fined with up to EUR 500,000 for inability to ensure the heating services in line with the agreement.
