Sevastova opens 2020 season with a loss at Brisbane International

BRISBANE - Latvia's highest-ranked tennis player Anastasija Sevastova opened the 2020 season with a loss at the Brisbane International tournament on Monday.

Sevastova, who is currently ranked 27th in the WTA rankings, lost to the United States' Sofia Kenin (14th in the WTA rankings) 6:7 (1:7), 4:6 in the first round of the Brisbane International.

Sevastova has earned one WTA ranking point at the Brisbane International, and will fall to the 30th place or lower in the WTA rankings next week.

Sevastova reached the Brisbane International semifinals in 2018, while last year she was defeated by Naomin Osaka of Japan in the tournament's quarterfinals.
