RIGA - In the future, a separate bill will regulate entry and residence of the EU citizens and their family members in Latvia instead of the Cabinet of Ministers regulations as it is now.
A bill supported by the government today will prescribe the procedures for the entry and residence in Latvia of citizens of the EU, the European Economic Area, or in the Swiss Confederation and their family members, who have made use of the right to free movement of persons, and restrictions on residence of such persons.
Currently these procedures are set by the Cabinet of Ministers regulations adopted in 2011. The European Commission has repeatedly noted that these norms should be included in a law.
The bill still has to be adopted by the parliament.
