Scope of wiretapping down in Lithuania, control still in question

VILNIUS – The degree of wiretapping of telephone conversations in Lithuania is down, however, critics maintain that court control remains too weak, as judges fully approve more than 96 per cent of the requests from prosecutors. The data is available on the judicial statistics provided to BNS Lithuania by the National Court Administration. In 2015, prosecutors turned to courts 10,272 times with calls to sanction control of information transmitted by electronic communication, as compared to 12,332 requests in 2014 and 14,526 in 2013.
