TALLINN - An aircraft belonging to the Russian Ministry of the Interior entered the Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindloo in the Gulf of Finland without permission around noon on Wednesday and spent approximately a minute in Estonian airspace.

The transponder of the Tupolev TU154M plane that spent about a minute in Estonian airspace was turned on, but it had not presented a flight plan, spokespeople at the headquarters of the Estonian defense forces said.

The aircraft had no radio contact with the Estonian Air Navigation Services.

The Estonian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned the Russian ambassador and handed him a diplomatic note.

This is the second time that a Russian aircraft has made an unauthorized incursion into the Estonian airspace this year.
