RIGA - Russia is posing increasingly intense and aggressive hybrid threats - cyberattacks, and is widely using artificial intelligence tools for its disinformation and propaganda campaigns, Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity) said during a meeting with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Cyber and Digital Transformation Jean Charles Ellermann-Kingombe on Wednesday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Braze today met with NATO assistant secretary general for a discussion on the strengthening of defense capabilities on NATO's eastern flank in view of the rapidly changing defense technology and geopolitical environment. The officials exchanged views on NATO's plan for accelerating the adoption of new technology products, the Rapid Adoption Action Plan.

The officials agreed that the cybersecurity capabilities of both the Alliance and the Allies must be strengthened, considering digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence, and the need to effectively respond to new types of threats.

The NATO assistant secretary general has arrived in Latvia for a working visit at the invitation of the foreign minister. He intends to meet Latvian businesses and get to know Latvia's achievements in the defense industry, including in the areas of UAVs, artificial intelligence, 5/6G and quantum technologies, as well as Latvia's experience with strengthening cyber security.
