RIGA - Russia is trying to reduce aid to Ukraine through various provocations in European countries, Latvian Ambassador to NATO Maris Riekstins told TV3 this morning.

He stressed that Russia's plan to take Ukraine in three days has failed - the war has lasted for more than three and a half years.

"If Russia's strategy was a quick victory in Ukraine, then this strategy has failed," Riekstins says, stressing that Russia's plan now could be to carry out various provocative actions in Europe. He stresses, however, that not all incidents, such as those related to drones, can be blamed on Russian activities.

Russia is in such a way trying to solve the problem in Ukraine, where it is bogged down.

Russia understands that it will not be possible to win in Ukraine as long as Western support for Ukraine continues. Therefore, one of the objectives is to create a sense of insecurity in Western societies so that people become worried and ask their governments to devote more resources to the defense of their country, while at the same time trying to find solutions through talks with Russia, the Ambassador explains. The aim is to cut off aid to Ukraine.

The West understands Russia's tactics, which is why Russia is failing to achieve its goal, Riekstins confirms.
