RIGA - In the event a state of emergency is declared in Latvia due to the increasing Covid-19 incidence, heat supply company Rigas Siltums wants to launch heat supply to all apartment residential buildings in the near future, regardless of what debts residents may have, the company informed LETA.

Rigas Siltums is ready to supply heating to all apartment buildings where heating units and systems have been prepared for the heating season and hydraulic tests have been carried out.

Rigas Siltums will not apply penalties for late payments also during this heating season.

"We very much hope that these steps will make it easier for customers to get through the next heating season, which seems to be quite challenging, given the increase in the heat tariffs due to the rapid rise in energy prices," says Rigas Siltums CEO Normunds Talcis.

The company also urges building managers, in cooperation with apartment owners, to implement energy saving measures, as heating bills depend not only on the heating tariff, but also on heat consumption.

Currently heating is not supplied to 397 apartment buildings in Riga, as Riga municipal housing company Rigas Namu Parvaldnieks told LETA.

With the consent of Rigas Siltums, heat supply to these houses could commence within a few days.
