Riga municipality concludes that Stakis' business trips were in line with applicable laws and regulations

RIGA - Former Riga Mayor Martins Stakis' (Progressives/For) business trips were all in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, according to an internal audit conducted by the Riga City Council.

According to Section 17 of the Law on Local Governments, chairperson of the Riga City Council is the highest political official in the municipality, accordingly he himself decides what business trips he has to go on, says the audit report.

The probe has established that all business trips by Riga mayor from October 2, 2020 were in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Municipal employees who prepared documents for these trips also acted in accordance with their competences and the applicable laws and regulations.

The probe was carried out by the Riga City Council's Central Administration in cooperation with the Legal Affairs Department.
