Presidents of Latvia and Azerbaijan discuss geopolitical situation and energy related matters

RIGA - On Wednesday in Davos, President of Latvia Egils Levits held a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev to discuss the geopolitical situation and topical issues in the energy sector, LETA was informed by the Presidential Press Service.

The two presidents welcomed the good relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan and the close political dialogue, including within the framework of the EU-Azerbaijan dialogue.

Discussing the security situation in Europe, both sides condemned Russia's hostilities in Ukraine as a flagrant violation of international law and confirmed that support to Ukraine should continue as intensively as before in economic, political and military terms.

The two sides also discussed international security issues within the framework of the UN.

The President of Latvia inquired about stability in the South Caucasus and the development of energy infrastructure in this region.

This was the first meeting between the two presidents, and President Aliev expressed his hope to welcome the President of Latvia on a visit to Azerbaijan.
