President to attend commemorative events to mark 80th anniversary of the start of WWII in Warsaw

RIGA - Today, Latvian President Egils Levits will attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II together with other European and world leaders in the Polish capital, Warsaw.

There will be a military held at Pilsudski Square in Warsaw to commemorate the air raids on Polish cities of September 1, 1939, LETA was informed by the Presidential Press Service.

Egils Levits is taking part in this event to emphasize that World War II was fatal for Europe, including Poland and the Baltic States, and one must do its utmost to strengthen a peaceful and united Europe today.

During the events, meetings are scheduled with the President of Poland and the leaders of other countries. At the end of the day, the President of Latvia will attend a commemorative concert at the Grand Theatre.
