RIGA - The government headed by Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) will change the approach to the fight against shadow economy, focusing on systemic solutions, said Finance Ministry's parliamentary secretary Atis Zakatistovs (KPV LV) after the meeting of the council for fighting shadow economy.

He said that today the first meeting of the council took place under the lead of the present government. Participants of the meeting revised the performance of the previous governments in the area, including communication to the society.

"The previous governments worked differently. So far fight against shadow economy had been focused on improving the business environment, which is not easily understood by the society. If we wish to considerably reduce shadow economy, our actions should be understandable, which means that problems should be defined clearly and then solved," said Zakatistovs.

The council for fighting shadow economy was established in 2014.  The council's meetings are not held on a regular basis, but are convened as necessary.
