Ostapenko through to second round of US Open

NEW YORK - Latvia’s second-ranked women’s tennis player Alona Ostapenko defeated Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 7-6 (9:7) in the first round of the US Open, securing her first win in a Grand Slam tournament this year.

Ostapenko currently sits in 77th place in the WTA ranking, while Krunic is in the 97th position.

Ostapenko earned 70 WTA points for reaching the second round of the US Open.
