Ostapenko loses in final of Linz Open to Gauff

LINZ (Austria) - Latvia's second-ranked women's tennis player Alona Ostapenko today lost the final match of the Linz Open 2019 to the rising US tennis star Coco Gauff.

The 15-years-old American beat the Latvian 3-6, 6-1, 2-6 in what was the first final match of a WTA tournament Ostapenko has managed to reach this season. 

Ostapenko holds the 72nd position in the WTA ranking and Gauff is in 110th place.

Ostapenko earned 180 WTA points for getting to the final in Linz, which will let her climb some ten positions in the ranking. 

In the semi-final matches on Saturday, Ostapenko eliminated Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova in a three-set thriller 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 , and Gauff  defeated Andrea Petkovic of Germany in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
