RIGA - Saeima Speaker Daiga Mierina (Greens/Farmers) met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, Woo Won-sik, in Seoul to discuss cooperation opportunities in the fields of economy, energy, security and defense, the Saeima press office informs.
Mierina underlined the importance of Korea's experience in strengthening energy security, including nuclear cooperation and the development of small modular nuclear power plants.
The talks also focused on economic cooperation, noting that Latvia is the largest supplier of peat to Korea, accounting for about 70 percent of imports of the raw material, and highlighted the potential for further cooperation in agriculture, tourism and aviation.
In the area of security, the Saeima speaker invited Korea to join the Latvian-led drone coalition, paying particular attention to research and development.
During her visit, Mierina also met with Korea's prime minister, defense minister, lawmakers, entrepreneurs and representatives of the Latvian diaspora, as well as visited the energy company Doosan Enerbility.
