TALLINN – Eight serious traffic accidents occurred in Estonia on Thursday, injuring a total of nine people. Three of the incidents involved e-scooters.
The first accident occurred at 8:15 a.m. in Tallinn at the intersection of Vääna Street and Pärnu Highway, where a 60-year-old woman driving a Kia Sportage made a left turn and hit an eight-year-old boy who was crossing the road on a scooter at a crosswalk. The child was taken to the hospital, the Police and Border Guard Board informed BNS.
The second accident took place at 1:40 p.m. on Sõpruse Avenue in Tallinn, where a 17-year-old youth riding an electric scooter lost control of the vehicle and fell. The young man was transported to the hospital.
At 4:12 p.m., an accident happened in Nabala village, Harju County, where a Mercedes driven by a 43-year-old man struck a 76-year-old man who was riding a bicycle. The cyclist was taken to the hospital.
In the evening, at 7:31 p.m., a 30-year-old man riding an electric scooter fell on Raadiku Street in Tallinn and was injured. Paramedics took him to the hospital.
At 8:17 p.m., a Honda motorcycle and a Ford passenger car collided on Narva Highway in Tallinn. The 38-year-old man driving the motorcycle was injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. The 67-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Ford was not injured.
In Kohtla-Järve, Ida-Viru County, a 58-year-old man showing signs of alcohol intoxication fell while riding his bicycle on Toome Avenue at 9:04 p.m. The cyclist required hospital treatment.
At 10:31 p.m. on Tammsaare Road in Tallinn, a 21-year-old man driving a Volvo veered into the oncoming lane and collided with an approaching Škoda passenger car, driven by a 45-year-old man. The Volvo driver was transported to the hospital.
The last accident of the day occurred at 10:41 p.m. on Ehitajate Road in Tallinn, where a BMW driven by a 19-year-old man rear-ended a Mercedes-Benz. Both drivers, the young man in the BMW and the 59-year-old woman driving the Mercedes, were taken to the hospital.
