Estonian beaches safer for swimming

TALLINN - Beaches on Estonia's northern coast will be free from toxic algae and safer for swimmers this year according to a study prepared by the Finnish Environment Administration. "The main reason for the better forecast is the mixing of the deep water layers of the Gulf of Finland over the past winter," said Mikko Kiirikki, a senior researcher with the environmental agency. Strong winds over the winter months mixed the sea water, bringing oxygen to the bottom of the sea.
