Latvia recently celebrated her 85th anniversary. Fifty of those years were spent living under Soviet and Nazi totalitarian regimes. Latvia lost its independence in 1940 because its proclaimed neutrality was not effective, and Western countries were not able to take a common line against two evil empires.
