Latvian police recently detained a man for illegally receiving his long-dead grandmother's pension. The woman's death 18 years ago went unreported so that her son could collect her pension. After her son died, her grandson then began to receive her pension. Law enforcement agencies estimated that at least 10,000 lats (15,300 euros) had been cheated from the state.
