Prices in the Baltic bourses continue to slide

  • 1999-11-04
Last week share prices and trading activity continued to
slide on the three Baltic bourses in contrast to most world bourses
which posted gains.

In Estonia, share prices on most of the liquid stocks fell,
including a 7.6 percent drop by Norma, a 3 percent decline by
Uhispank and an 0.7 percent drop by Hansapank. The TALSE index
finished the week unchanged at 96.84 thanks to strong gains by Kalev
(+26 percent) and Farmaatsiatehas (+15 percent).

In Latvia, trading was once again lethargic. Except for a
single day when a deal with T-bills took place, turnover fluctuated
between $25,000 and $50,000.

The RSE's indexes were dragged down by Rigas Transporta
Flote's share price, which sank 26 percent due to poor nine-month
results.

Political events left a stamp on the Lithuanian bourse's
indexes if not trading activity. Share prices of most liquid shares
slid, including a 17.6 percent plunge in Ukio Bankas' share price.
Vilniaus Bankas' share price dropped 3.5 percent. The Litin-10 ended
the week down 5.74 percent.
