Vike-Freiberga appeals to Cabinet

RIGA - In an Aug. 19 government meeting President Vaira Vike-Freiberga called on the Cabinet to keep in mind public perception of its activities and the long term goal of joining the European Union. The president appealed to Cabinet ministers to explain to the electorate the advantage of budget austerity measures so that its concerns over the budget process, which in recent weeks has threatened to topple the Cabinet, would not have a detrimental effect on the EU referendum.She also asked that people consider the crucial role of their votes in shaping the country's future and cautioned them ...
