Uncertain future for pivotal 'Vilnius 10'

VILNIUSEuropean security and trans-Atlantic relations topped the agenda at last week's meeting of the Vilnius 10 in the ancient Lithuanian capital of Trakai. The members successfully sidestepped any of the controversial issues marring relations between Europe and the United States - the war in Iraq, an EU-sponsored military force - issuing a declaration supporting continued cooperation between EU and NATO. Originally, the V10 was conceived after the accession of the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary in order to promote informal cooperation between East European countries still seeking NATO...
