Sampo Pank has managed to double the number of its customers during 2002 and make some customers of rival financial groups change their choice in favor of Sampo.

"Surely some clients have come to us from competitors. That is a fact," Sampo Pank Board Cairman Harmo Vark told the daily Eesti Paevaleht.

"On the other hand the reason is that in Estonia people often use the services of several different banks," he added.

Sampo Pank's customer base of private individuals alone grew 120 percent last year.

By the end of this year, the bank expects customer base to grow to 100,000 from the present approximately 70,000, said Vark.

The Sampo group's five-year goal is to achieve a 30 percent market share in Estonia's savings market.
