Admiral elected to reform, lead Latvia's armed forces

RIGAIn a closed vote Jan. 30, Latvia's Parliament voted 75-19 to appoint Admiral Gaidis Zeibots the country's new National Armed Forces commander.A veteran of the Soviet navy and a graduate of the Soviet Union's High Military Radio Electronics School in 1969, Zeibots, 57, has also served as independent Latvia's naval chief of staff. In 2000, he became NATO integration officer for the Defense Ministry.He will replace Brigadier Gen.
