VILNIUS(BNS) - Lithuania's phone company will continue to buy good
will with cost-free conversation. Lietuvos Telekomas has announced it
will continue to offer all customers an hour of free local calls per
month this year.

It will cost Lithuanian Telecom around 5 million litas ($1.25
million) monthly, the company said Jan. 6.

The fixed-line telephone monopoly had the right to stop offering free
calls to the population this year, according to an agreement with the
Lithuanian government.

The government subsidizes part of the line rental charge for people
on welfare. They pay between 4.2 and 6 litas per month, compared with
13 litas paid by other users.
