Dealers still celebrate

Although trading activity on all three Baltic bourses was low last week, trading in Riga was especially anemic, with turnover four to eight times lower than in Tallinn and Vilnius.

Estonia experienced some of the euro euphoria that swept across European bourses at the start of the week, but in Riga and Vilnius the new year opened with price corrections of major stocks, including Unibanka and Vilniaus Bankas.

This week is unlikely to bring any surge in activity on the Baltic bourses as most investors continue to shy away from the region. Local players are waiting for unaudited 1998 results, which are likely to bring many surprises.
