RIGA - So, the European Commission says Latvia is on track for EU membership. Not so fast. The ongoing economic crisis in Russia could cost Latvia its chance of joining the EU entry talks next year, said Inese Kriskane, an adviser with Latvia's European Affairs Committee.The recently released EC progress report on Latvia concluded entry talks could start with Latvia by the end of 1999 provided the country maintains its current level of progress.
