It's six months since Latvia joined the eurozone and it's clear the country has become more attractive to foreign investors, Latvian President Andris Berzins has said.

Berzins told Latvian television that the country had been able to secure planned economic growth as a result of becoming the 18th member of the eurozone earlier this year.

Salaries of local residents have grown by nine percent as a result of the switch over also, the president said.

"I believe that we have no better option, and this is the right choice," Berzins said in regard to Latvia's accession to the EU.

In regard to Latvia's upcoming presidency of the EU Council, Berzins remarked that he sooner expects for Latvia to contribute to EU's development and economic growth and not to expect and wait for gains from the EU.
