The announcement that users of public transport in Riga who are not registered as living within the municipality of Riga will have to pay more to use it, was considered a throwback to Soviet times, according to former president of Latvia, Valdis Zatlers. Speaking to the LETA news agency, Zatlers recalled how on trips to Moscow, his wife who spoke Russian more convincingly than he did, was able to purchase a lower priced ticket to a museum and he would have to pay the higher price.
