Back in Soviet days, there were two Latvian composers in particular who were known throughout the USSR and were seen as true maestros. Both of them are still alive, and I’m sure that The Baltic Times readers have at least heard of them, if not heard any of their music. Raimonds Pauls is one, and Imants Kalnins is the other.Unfortunately for both men, during the past two decades they have managed to substantially dent their reputations because of their involvement in politics.
