VILNIUS - The first day of November - All Saints' Day - is one of the most important on the Lithuanian calendar. It is the day on which pious Lithuanians commemorate their dead.This year, it fell on a Sunday and the roads leading out of the big cities - Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda - were filled with locals whose roots reach back into the soil of the countryside, where beloved relatives are buried.The pilgrimage out of the city is followed by beautiful ceremonies of light at the graveyards.
