VILNIUS - Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius met with representatives of the U.S. oil company Chevron, informing them that the energy company will not be allowed to take any actions in the search for energy reserves, as the agreement between the company and local residents has not been reached yet, reports ELTA.

While giving an interview on LRT radio on July 2, Butkevicius said that the meeting will be taking place regarding the laws on environment and taxation related to the search and mining of the liquid gas, as confirmed in the Seimas.

“Chevron has to find mutual agreement with members of the community or with these communities in which the reconnaissance actions have to be performed. The position of the government persists. Work cannot start, as mutual agreement has not been reached,” said Butkevicius.
