Latvian official to visit prisoners held in India

RIGA - A Latvian foreign ministry official is planning a December visit to Latvians imprisoned in India for alleged illegal arms smuggling.Four Latvian citizens and one Russian citizen were arrested in Bombay Airport Dec. 22, 1995 on suspicion of smuggling illegal arms in Western India. The men were the part of the crew of flight AN 26 and have been held in a Calcutta prison ever since. The state official's trip will mark the fifth time someone from Latvia has visited the prisoners.Indian law gives authorities a three-year time period in which to conduct a trial of those charged with crimes...
