I must confess that I spent much of last Sunday with a silly grin on my face, so relieved was I at the rational results of Saturday's election. I was especially pleased to see that despite the Fatherland and Freedom Party's noisy (and very professional) "Latvians - don't yield!" campaign, the referendum went down to a well-deserved defeat.More than anything else, the vote signaled Latvia's desire to be a grown-up member of the European and world community.
